A Tessellation for Algebraic Surfaces in Cp

چکیده

The tessellation we present contains a minimal number of vertices: they are the n-th roots of unity in the six standard projective lines CP in CP, and are the obvious vertices to start a construction of a natural tessellation for Fn. Our tessellation is invariant under the action of the obvious isomorphism group of Fn induced by permutations and phase multiplications of the coordinates, and the action is transitive on the set of 4-cells. The tessellation is built upon a similar triangulation for the corresponding algebraic curves in CP, and we believe it can be generalized to the corresponding algebraic hypersurfaces in CP for N > 3.

Fundamental Groups of Complements of Branch Curves as Solvable Groups

In this paper we show that fundamental groups of complements of curves are “small” in the sense that they are “almost solvable”. Thus we can start to compute π2 as a module over π1 in order to produce new invariants of surfaces that might distinguish different components of a moduli space. 0. Applications of the calculations of fundamental groups to algebraic surfaces. Our study of fundamental ...

A tessellation for Fermat surfaces in CP3

For each positive integer n, we present a tessellation of CP2 that can be lifted, through the branched covering, to a symmetric tessellation of the Fermat surface (a 4-manifold) of degree n inCP3. The process is systematic and symbolically algebraic. Each fourcell in the tessellation is bounded by four pentahedrons, and each pentahedron has four triangular faces and one quadrilateral face. Spin Canonical Invariants of 4-manifolds and Algebraic Surfaces

Donaldson’s celebrated construction of polynomial invariants for 4-manifolds (see for example [D–K]) has served as a model for an enormous range of recent results and constructions relating algebraic geometry and differential topology. The short written version of Donaldson’s talk at the 1990 Arbeitstagung contained the construction of jumping instantons, and was the starting point for our cons...

Adaptive Tessellation of Bezier Surfaces Based on Displacement Maps

Bézier surfaces are widely used in computer graphics applications. Rendering of such surfaces is commonly performed by tessellation. In order to generate less triangles for high quality surfaces, adaptive tessellation algorithms are better. The geometric tests used by these algorithms perform vector computations of high latency that decreases the performance of the algorithm. We propose an adap...

On the C°° Invariance of the Canonical Classes of Certain Algebraic Surfaces

1. The results announced in this article concern certain aspects of the diffeomorphism classification of algebraic surfaces, and in particular, the role of the canonical class. We establish our results by developing a general criterion under which the possibilities for Donaldson's polynomial invariants for smooth 4-manifolds [2] are severely limited. We then use these limitations to conclude th...
